International Diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA)

International Diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA)

IdEA, the International diaspora Engagement Alliance, promotes and supports diaspora-centered initiatives in countries and regions of diaspora origin. IdEA is a non-partisan program that engages global diaspora communities, the private sector, civil society, and public institutions in collaborative efforts to support economic and social development. IdEA is managed via a public-private partnership between the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and Calvert Foundation.

IdEA connects diaspora communities with opportunities to give back to their countries of origin or ancestry. We partner with initiatives that reflect the goals of IdEA and allow diasporas to give back to their countries of heritage. IdEA’s activities are organized around four principal pillars: Investment & Entrepreneurship, Philanthropy, Volunteerism and Innovation.

Organization Mission

IdEA is a tool for Diaspora groups to:

Convene Partners: We facilitate networking opportunities for Diasporas, private sector, non-profit and government partners at IdEA meetings and conferences. Participants share experiences, develop concepts, and operationalize plans for projects that foster stronger diaspora engagement with countries of origin.

Mobilize Resources: Diasporas gain access to new resources through IdEA partnerships. IdEA connects diaspora members to business competitions such as the Fish 2.0, African Diaspora Marketplace and the Caribbean Idea Marketplace, implemented by IdEA partners.

Develop Capacity:  IdEA offers technical assistance and training for members of the diaspora who participate in IdEA programs. IdEA’s website makes it easy for Diasporas to keep up-to-date with the latest data and analysis about trends in diaspora engagement and opportunities for collaboration.

Implement Projects:  IdEA, together with its partners, designs projects that reflect the goals of the Alliance. Diasporas can find information about these projects on the website and apply to participate. Learn more about our different initiatives here.
