Alia Afshar-Gandhi, a professional DAI staff member, is a senior project manager and team leader with over 14 years of experience working in Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East. She has specialized experience in value chain analysis and rural economic development. Over the last 14 years, she has managed large, complex USAID-funded projects in post-conflict countries and provided technical support to improve the livelihoods of rural communities. She has conducted value chain analysis in the agriculture sector, developed small grants programs focused on targeting women-owned enterprises, and has worked with gender and microenterprise teams to identity sustainable income generating opportunities for marginalized women. In addition, Ms. Afshar-Gandhi has strong background in monitoring and evaluation, having prepared a number of PMPs for existing projects and new business. At DAI, Ms. Afshar-Gandhi, serves as a Sr. Program Manager in the Economic Growth team where she manages a portfolio of projects in MENA and leads new business efforts. She has worked in challenging transitional environments including Afghanistan, Angola, Iraq, Liberia, Rwanda, and South Africa. She holds a B.A. in International Affairs from the George Washington University and a Masters in International Development Policy from the University of Maryland.
